about
Merry Christmas from Eluvia!
Back in 2011 we recorded our own arrangement of Silent Night and released it here for free on Bandcamp. This was Eluvia's first recording as a band. We had formed during the spring of 2011 and recorded our first version of this arrangement in December of the same year.
Eluvia has gone on to release 2 major albums, music videos, and be featured on several Chinese television shows.
Over 9 years later, we've found the original project files and remixed the song adding new parts from our current members on top of Eluvia's original founding band member's tracks. We decided to update the song and release it here on Bandcamp. In this song we have the original recorded parts from Eluvia's founding members:
Jennifer Woodruff Greene (2011-2013) Keys and Vocals
Nick Banks (2011 - 2014) Bass
Jason Coffey (2011 - present) Drums
Doug McGee (2011 - present) Singer/Songwriter and Guitars
We took these original tracks and retracked Doug's lead vocal, but kept everything else the same besides adding some modern production techniques. We then added parts from Eluvia's other current members:
Chris Gaertner (2014 - present) Bass, Mandolin, Banjo, and Vocals
Ting Ting Fan (2015 - present) Yangqin
Ben Whitmore (2015 - present) Guitars, Bass, Vocals
Hilbert Alexander (2020 - present) Bass, Vocals
Nick Trombetta (2020 - present) Drums, Vocals
The current pandemic has separated some of us. Chris Gaertner and his family are currently in the US while Jason Coffey and his family are in South Korea. Though we are separated by distance, this hasn't stopped us from continuing to create and innovate. Chris recorded mandolin parts and new background vocals with his mobile recording setup and sent the tracks to be mixed in Beijing.
Though Ting Ting is right next door to Beijing, we now feel that distance a lot more than in the past. Ting Ting added some beautiful yangqin parts complementing the original guzheng part performed by our friend Ou Fang. Ben also added some beautiful harmonies and a lovely choir section on the instrumental.
Finally, we were happy to have Hilbert and Nick T. jump into the studio with Doug and record some gang vocals.
While it is hard to believe that 9 years have passed since the start of Eluvia, it has been an amazing journey! My mind is full of so many adventures on the road, on tour, in the studio, but most of all, I'm drawn to the years of friendship that we all share!
This truly is a gift from Eluvia past, present, and future! Merry Christmas
lyrics
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
'Round yon virgin Mother and Child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight!
Glories stream from heaven afar;
Heavenly hosts sing Al-le-lu-ia!
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born!
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, oh, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth
